I purchased this jm about 3 years ago as a 1st year graft. I think it has put on a nice amount of growth to be considered a dwarf. But there are a few things to consider with grafted maples. It gets full sun until 1 or 2ish. Fall color is a yellowish-orange.

    Description from the web:
DWARF JAPANESE MAPLE SIMILAR TO 'KURUI JISHI' AND 'OKUSHIMO' WITH SMALL UPTURNED OR SLIGHTLY CURLED Leaves.

@LoverOfMaples, Okushimo is known here as Crispa, or that's how it is marketed. A lot of talk that it is a stunner in the Autumn but easily passed by in the Summer. Is that your opinion of Happy Fin Mo ?
So many new cultivars these days it's hard to keep up !!
You are getting some wonderful shapes to your new young trees D. Any secrets you would like to share. Promise I wont tell anyone !!!

Yep D, I can agree with that. I also have 'Kurui jishi' and the same for it.

This one took its own shape. but sometimes with the young ones I will help them alone with staking or wiring.

Yep. You have to really careful because it will cut into the tree and leave some ugly scars.

@LoverOfMaples, agreed D, I use as thick a wire as I possibly can to avoid this happening. But invariably it does happen.

@bub72ck the thread title needs to be changed to Hippy so that it is in the correct place in the cultivar photo section. I can do this for you, or you can edit it yourself.

1st may 2023 and I had to get this one, as I said to D @LoverOfMaples last year.
It's just leafing out with those wonderful upturned leaves.
Still a young tree as you can see.

Hey, @LoverOfMaples , you good? Do you know who selected and named this? Seems to mean nothing in Japanese. Looks a whole lot like Kurui-jishi to me. You still thing it's distinct? -E

Hey E. I'm doing ok but going through a little something at the moment my friend.

I don't know that info but I will look into it. I got it from Jen.

I have both. Hippy leaves are not as curled as Kurui-jishi.

Hippy is a very strong grower for me. I will pay more attention to these two this year.

Yo @emery . So I've been haven't found much info on this one but I can tell they are different. Kurui-jishi leaves seems to curl very tight as they mature. Ive notice that Hippy Mo Fin does not. I've also noticed that Hippy Mo Fin is very similar to Okushimo.

Hey, hey D, good to see you face the other day, even if we didn't get to talk.

One thing I know is it's not Japanese. Even AI doesn't recognize that it might be associated with any particular language, lol.

I'll drop a line to Jen, actually, and see where she got it, anyway.

    Cheers, =E
